Blueberry Picking!

Having Lucas has taught me to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. I find it is often the small, unexpected moments that make our days together so special.

Recently while on a long road trip, Lucas and I passed a small farm in Pennsylvania with a wooden sign out front advertising blueberry picking. The timing couldn't have been better, as Lucas was beginning to get antsy after sitting for so long in the car. We pulled off the side of the road and walked through their farmers market. Lucas was given a small white bucket and we were sent on our way. We snacked and picked our way through the blueberry fields, until Lucas had enough to munch on while we finished our car ride back home to Virginia.

A simple, yet fabulous, detour.

World Cup Celebration

I'm always looking for a good reason to throw a themed dinner... and what better reason than the USA World Cup game?!

Recently, we had our friends over to cheer on the USA. The following day, the USA won... I like to think partly due to our patriotism the night before :) #USA #ibelieve #fifa #worldcup

Reston Zoo

While this post is about a month (or two) late, this day was too fun not to share! Late spring, Jeannie and I took our little beans to the Reston Zoo. Being the end of spring, all the baby animals had just recently been born. Lucas and Callie had the opportunity to feed pellets to the ostrich, camels and long horn and then later fed bottles of milk to the two week old baby sheep and goats.

The chores can wait.

Life is busy, our days go by fast, and Lucas continues to grow like a weed.

I am a huge believer that every now and then, no matter what is going on, it is important to let it go for a short time and enjoy the moment because these days pass by too quickly. Last night we did just that. We had a dishwasher to be unloaded, clothes waiting to be folded, tiny footprints on the wood floor to be mopped, and suitcases to be unpacked. But just for tonight, that could wait.

Our evening consisted of building train tracks and playing firetrucks while rescuing pretend kitties from pretend trees. Daddy and Lucas chased "monsters" throughout the kitchen and Mama sat in a pretend jail with pretend handcuffs thanks to Policeman Lucas. We all sat down to dinner together, which doesn't happen nearly as often as we would like, and finished off our meal with a big bowl of ice cream. It was a simple, yet fabulous, night and everyone went to bed with a smile on their face.

Roadtrip to Ohio!

With most of our family located in Ohio, you don't have to twist my arm to get me there! Recently, Lucas and I packed up the car and took off towards the midwest for an extended visit with our family. Our first stop was Columbus. With everyone's busy work schedules, it is rare that my family is all together in one spot... but this was one of those special times.

Our time together was jam packed! We participated in the first annual Dash for Nash, attended Lucas' first baseball game (complete with his first cotton candy), spent time with my siblings, visited the local firestation, and went swimming with Grandma! We had such a blast!

After Columbus, we took a trip down to Loveland to visit more family! We spent the day splashing around the pool with Nan, Aunt Heather and Aunt Fallon. Later that night, Lucas spent the evening with his Nan and Dziadzi while Heather and Fallon treated me to a long over due movie!

As always, it was hard to leave. Our trips back home never feel long enough.
